i can't speak from experience, but all i know is timing is important for making this decision. i'm in my early thirties and am just now at a point that i will actually consider marriage if it's with the right person.
men generally have a longer shelf life and can go the extra distance before committing and it's usually for the best as there's a lesser chance for infidelity if you've been around the block enough times that you're over it and can be sure you'll never have problems staying true to your wife.
in addition, if you're like me and date girls between 8 to 10 years younger than you, it's best to wait until your counterpart has experienced enough of life themselves to make such a huge committment. women are usually more mature than men, but that doesn't mean they really know who they are yet or what they want in life - even by their mid-twenties.
