for all "I don't know about type design" designers:
In a well designed font, the glyphs/characters do not follow the x-height or caps-height strictly, but rather give the visual impression that they do. the x-height (same for caps height) is the height characters with a straight top go up to, characters like x/z, but characters with a round top (like c/o/e) rather overshoot that line a bit, so they visually look like they end at that line.
- for that same reason, a round char. shouldn't be geometricly round but rather upside down eggshapedneverblink
