You should look into a small offset shop, or go with thermography. If you call a place called Sunset Press in San Diego they offer offset at wholesale prices to designers. They will even do the low quantities you are looking for (invites always have low quantities). His Name is Greg.
I am sure there are smaller offset shops up there, but i don't know of any.
Just to let you know, i had 250 8.5x11 sheets printed 2/0 and it only cost me $114. And this was one PMS color and Spot Black offset.
