I don't see why this would not work. Del Toro is quite imaginative, and now that John Lasseter is essentially the new head cheese in charge of all things creative, it's not too much of a stretch to see how Disney would be encouraging collaboration with creators who come with an edge.

Disney has been trying desperately to develop properties that counter their image as "the princess and fairy company" of late, and I think their recent acquisition of Marvel and the introduction of the "Double Dare You" series is intriguing, if not a step in the right direction.

Some of you may think that their purchase of Marvel is a death nell for the comics, but anyone who's followed the industry knows that Disney pretty much saved Marvel with that purchase.

Del Toro's work is lush with all kinds of horrible violence (like a great deal of Marvel comics, come to think of it), but they are also very incisive, thoughtful works that often have children as central characters. Yes, they are made for adults, but it's not too hard to see how there is more to this creator.

I guess I'm a little surprised that a site dedicated to design has users that can't imagine how someone would be able to tell many different kinds of stories. Del Toro isn't a brand, and he's not one-note director who can't tell a good story (*cough* Tim Burton) – he's a true creator, and I have a feeling he can do quite a bit more than one thing.

    • ok walt, bogger off now will youerikjonsson
    • I think Burton can tell a story. Big Fish to Edward Scissorhands is a broad range...babaganush
