    I keep a 10GB scratch partition 2nd inline after my #1 OS volume, followed by files etc. Been doing it that way since OS9.

    Recently had all the tech guys at an Apple Store laughing at me (literally) for still partitioning a Mac on OSX. They asked me why and I told them one reason was for a scratch partition (they looked confused) and another being that every time I do disk maintenance I don't want to scan over the 25,000 fonts on my Library volume.

    That shut them up and sent back to selling their iPhones.
