    Don't get a bird unless you have experience with them. They take more work than you might think. They are also very social so if you must get a bird, unless you commit to spending a lot of time with it, get two so it can have companionship. I grew up with birds (cockatiels and parakeets) and ave rescued a few cockatiels who had lived in crappy situations where people thought it would be novel (and easy) to get a bird for their kids. The bird sat alone in a cage all day and then had objects thrown at its cage when it made noise (and yeah, they do make noise - they are birds!).

    Birds are awesome but IMHO they shouldn't be pets.
