Stay away unless you really really think it's worth it ;)
Yes, you're right; work hours are insane. And unless you are transferred here you'd likely stay on regular Japanese salaries, which is low for our type of job.
Not to mention that for those jobs you'd need more than just a little Japanese: Why should they sponsor your visa, risk loosing it for you possibly leaving here eventually, if what you have to offer is just almost being able to speak the language.
Remember...they have designers here too.That said...if you can get transferred/expatriated here from an Australian company you're all good.
And if you can't, but really want to come,
don't let anyone (including me) say you shouldn't try.
