    Nicktoons Ready to Form Voltron
Voltron Force will come to Nicktoons as a new TV series and toy line instead of the previously-planned movie.

Hot on the heels of word that a new ThunderCats series is in the works at Cartoon Network comes the anouncement that another '80s cartoon, Voltron, is getting its own new series for Nickelodeon's Nicktoons channel.

Yes, that's right -- the cartoon about five guys (and later four guys and one girl) who pilot different lion-esque robots that combine to form one large robot called Voltron, charged with defending the entire universe. And a kid who owned all five robots and thus could create their own Voltron pretty much ruled their entire neighborhood.

The new series, called Voltron Force, will follow five new "young cadets" in the Voltron Lion Squad. This is not the first attempt to reboot the Voltron franchise; in 1998, we got a syndicated CGI series called Voltron: The Third Dimension and there's been talk for years of a live-action Voltron movie. Despite the success of Transformers and a completed script on the table with a director attached, this new series and accompanying action figure line looks to be all Voltron fans will get for a while yet with the movie stuck in development hell. No word yet on when the series will premiere.
