Ah the pricing roller coaster! A definite difference doing business on the mainland as opposed to here. But in both, very little care, attention or trust is given to the value of good design, or the process that must be followed.

For sure, there's a lot of corporate companies out here, but they by no means throw money at you for nothing - they expect metrics, and if we're very lucky have a marketing department that know and care about KPI's and ROI.

I would say in terms of accountability and expectations Hong Kong is about 2-3 years behind the rest of the world with digital/web. As someone previously mentioned up till now it's very much been about throwing a flash website up with very little thought given to how it might fit in to a broader campaign or marketing strategy.

Probably about half my job is client education, and trying to make them understand that 'viral' marketing isn't a strategy or tactic, and that usability and user-centric design and processes opens the door to success for *any* project.

I would say in Hong Kong having a broader range of services has been great at getting us work we may not have gotten otherwise. For example many of our custom publishing contracts have benefited from applying a broader digital strategy and vice versa.
