Yeah it kind of blew my mind too when I got back here a couple of years ago. Innovation? Forget it - clients only want to know about what has been done successfully before by their competition.
Mention anything new/radical and they get cold feet. Nobody here wants to take a risk and be responsible for 'angering their boss'. I've personally be involved in and driven 3 stellar pitches that would have been not just amazingly successfully, but also incredibly fresh and new for the region, only to be shot down because there wasn't enough attention given to a sodding events tent or roll-up banner.
Seriously, that's how fickle it is here.
