    yeah, what raf said.

    if you're going budget, do not buy the cheapo monolight kits - you're better off going strobist-style with some hotshoes and diy light modifiers. trust me - you will be far less frustrated down the line. i have done the cheap-light-kit thing and so have friends, and their restrictive nature (slow cycling, limited adjustability) is in no way worth the price premium you'll pay over getting a bunch of vivitar 285s and putting together your own kit. plus, you'll learn more if you do it strobist-style!
