You can get a one year work Visa. Usually takes about 3-6months to process. Or if you get offered a job you have to be sponsored in, which can take much longer (6-12 months). Also depends on the province you apply to. Different jobs carry different weights... for example if you are a doctor you'll be in asap but if you wait tables in New Jersey you'll be waiting a while. If an employer want to sponsor you in, they have to advertise it to the Canadian public and do interviews etc to prove no Canadian is qualified to do the job, then they can "import" you. It costs them about 5K so you must lay golden eggs or something. If you marry a Canadian it can still take up to a year to get your Visa (permanent residency). However I have seen guys basically talk their way over the border with no real paper work, just a few lawyers letters.

The fastest way into Canada right now is to apply to Alberta and work on the Oil Sands. You can get processed in 4months max. But you'll be destroying the environment and working with lots of dirty smelly men.

    • this is the process i was informed.. thank you for clarifyingCQDE
    • I came from europe so the process was different for me. TN might be the way to go.Cenitgrade
