  Rooney is one of the best players in the world.

  This is just another example of Ferguson being out of touch with modern players. He can't bully players like he used to - players these days know their worth (albeit over-valued). Man Utd need a younger manager - like Mourinho at Real or Guardiola at Barca - who the players can relate to.
