You just sound like a dick by saying portfolios are self-indulgent. You make yourself a complete hypocrite by writing 5 paragraphs of self-indulgent bullshit about yourself.
If you work in design/advertising, being visually appealing and creating a lasting impression is key. Your site does give a lasting impression, but it's not a good one.
"Hello there. I'd like to operate on your heart. I promise you it'll give you a longer life and allow you to play sports and do all the things you can no longer do?"
"Well that sounds great, can I see some credentials. I don't just want some stranger operating on my heart. Surely that is a risky decision?"
