I thought soccer..excuse me, I mean football...was the game of the masses and global freedoms and shit. That's what all my Latin American friends told me for years. "You yanquis don't understand that the game is about the little guy. It's about sticking it to authority. Any street kid can play this game and become a superstar, not like your American football or baseball..."
Ah. So I guess that explains the authoritarian oligarchs getting the game for the forseeable future. Nice one. I'll look back fondly on those idealistic rants.
