The idea makes me feel a bit sick inside - but I suppose we have to face facts .. social media is here to stay.
BUT - maybe there are alternatives to showing streams of feeds; the largest being, don't show them.
What's the actually purpose of displaying a social media feed? Is it to actually inform people visiting a site? Is it to brag amount the site's social currency / credentials / connectedness? .. is it to sign up more followers?
I don't usually pay attention to embedded feeds .. because I can't see how doing so benefits me. If anything, when I notice something interesting - that sends me off on a tangent, and I leave the originating site and start viewing someone else's content.
Maybe we don't actually need these feeds - and people only embed them because it's easy to do / and it allows them to say 'I do social media' without much effort.
- Yes partly bragging rights but also it can be useful for companies to use as content as oppose to a stagnant websitecitizen_h
