If you work for someone else, you are trading your time and freedom for money. All your hard work and effort goes to making the owners wealthier and raising the value of their company, even though you may be entitled to a raise once in a while. And inevitably you will become too expensive to continue receiving raises. At which point, you will have realized the true meaning of "squandering one's time."
Make it a goal to one day be able to quit and start your own thing.
