I once was asked to bid on "completing" a so-called "almost complete" drupal project... I looked at the other guy's code for 2 days and couldn't understand too much of it, except in the context of a constantly-changing-specs project form hell....
I got the feeling that he left because the project had changed direction so often he had to keep re-kludging stuff, it was very hard for me to give any estimate, so I passed on it... .rumor has it the project's still in limbo a year later....
so, not to be weird, but the freedom of Drupal can be a bit of a curse sometimes, the limitations of tighter CMS's can be useful hammers to hit down the random changes of direction that project managers without a brain come up with sometimes....
