welcome mightyj!
I would suggest grabbing a month-long place from airbnb, and then just plan on looking any available moment you can by checking craigslist/padmapper/etc.
That's what we did, and it worked out. it's pretty competitive as far as renting, so make sure you have all your paperwork in-line.
paperwork you will need:
• CA rental contract (you can get it off the .gov site i believe, or email me and i'll shoot it to you)
• Credit score that has been done in the last week (or so). better to get all three scores and use the best one
• Bank statement showing savings/checking balances
• Offer letter from your new job (congrats by the way)
• any sort of letter of recommendation from previous landlords would be a bonusit's going to be a little more difficult to find a place with a dog, but it's doable. almost every fucking person out here has a dog haha.
I would suggest looking in the Mission hood near the 24th street Bart if you are looking for a lower rent place, but still has tons of good stuff around. Right now we are just of Harrison, and it's a little sketch any farther past both towards potrero and towards the 16th street Bart.
How much are you looking to spend for rent? and i actually know one person that may be looking for a roomate. he also just moved out here.
