Folks lived there a while. See below for what I tell people to do.
My favourite area of Paris is Canal St-Martin; trendy, a little like LES or Shoreditch. The below are all north to south of the canal.
Eat at a place called Hotel du Nord, good food and nice buzz. I'd go here for a Dinner rather than lunch. Get the steak. Rare.
102 Quai de JemmapesDrink at a Cafe called Chez Prune.
36 Rue Beaurepaire (on the same Canal as above, bit south and the other side)Late night drinks at a bar called Favella Chic.
18 Rue du Faubourg du TempleNot on the Canal - If you want posh, Hotel Costes is v. cool but super $$$.
For culture, Musee D'Orsay is amazing - has lots of the Impresionists and the space is amazing. Get there early - queues can be brutal.
Pere lachaise cemetery is worth a visit - super old mausoleum style graves. Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde buried here.
Visit Sacre-Coeur & Montmartre if you get a chance - cool area.
For something different, the Catacombs are interesting and creepy.
Visit Colette - super-cool Design store. You of all people'd like it. Its pretty close to Musee d'Orsay.
Hire the Velib bikes.
Avoid the Champs de elysee - bit shit. If you're into Architecture, the area around La Defence is great.
