I don't have any tattoos and I don't a bike. Nor do i wear glasses, skinny jeans or flannel shirts. Despite all this- i'm pretty sure i'm a hipster. Not because i aspire to be but because others might identify me as one.
Actually come to think of it, most people i've ever respected (personally or historically) could be perceived by others as hipsters...
And I think that's the point- its a cultural signifier that no-one would self bestow. It's also why the term itself has so little value, and why hating on them is so sad.
