If you are a creative person then do something creative rather than sending an email. A bog standard email is just going to end up being disregarded.
Do something creative and clever and mail it to them or hand deliver. Take advantage of the fact you've got an actual contact to get in touch with. Give them something special that'll make them take notice and remember you.
That'd be my advice. Surprise them with something nice. Fuck the email.
