What's worse is that the crap they stuck all over that box is old inventory they're trying to unload–the attempt being to play it off as a value bundle. That box design was not marketed to the savvy gamer. That box is for soccer moms who are finally caving in and getting a console for their family this christmas. The savvy gamer knows that a new console is coming and wouldn't buy a soon-to-be outdated console or the 2-3 yr old "value added" games that come with it.
So the box design becomes less about the console and more about the "value added" for the soccer mom who sees her daughter playing Dance Central 2... Thus the crap they slapped all over the front of it.
My guess is that was probably the conversation over at xbox marketing. It's just sad that the solutions looks like ass.
