Lots of people love the east side and I do like it quite a bit myself. I would live there if I didn't have the option to live where I do. I've had an apartment in Santa Monica going on 10 years now and i can only imagine letting that go for something else in Venice. I do really like the east side and going out downtown and farther east. But, at night, the drive is super fast without traffic. I'd rather drive a little bit to go out and spend less commuter time. Plus, there's tons of great food and bars on the west side. I don't really care for clubs in general so I'm as close to that as I wanna be (far away from anywhere considered hip).
There's lots of agencies west side. Lots of east siders commute west for work which can be a pain in the ass. but, for as long as i've lived here, I've only had one agency job in silverlake and only 2 in house freelance contracts farther east than Hollywood. I'm not sure if that's the average experience but that's why chose to live at first and why I've stayed. I've spend a lot of time floating around many offices as a freelancer for the last 6 years or so.
The beach is a nice perk if you take advantage of it.
