    I look at it like this. They use you because you're an expert at what you do. So why not put some of that expertise into a newsletter, email, blog or whatever format and once a month, just send them out something creative.

    That way you are on their radar and helping them out at the same time so you don't look like you're desperate for work.

    I have had clients call me and ask if I can do some work and I haven't spoken to them for over four years, but they've been getting regular emails from me for that period of time.

    Also, like pango says, send the occasional seasonal card if you can. If you want to really please them though, make a note of their birthdays and send personal cards.

    Once you get into the rythm of doing this, you'll notice more people coming back to you (hopefully).
