^ i would be wary of using w3schools stats as a guide to true global browser statistics, as they explain on their site, the data is gathered from their own sites logs, and who visits that site? mainly web devs, who are not using IE.
A service that gathers a more rounded stat might be: http://gs.statcounter.com/ as they gather their data per the following:
"Stats are based on aggregate data collected by StatCounter on a sample exceeding 15 billion pageviews per month collected from across the StatCounter network of more than 3 million websites."

p.s i still dev to IE8 for major companies, as the stats require it, unfortunately
