  I was let go from a job of five years last March because the position was eliminated. From experience I can tell you this: don't bullshit him, like everyone said. When you hear the words "position eliminated" it makes you think so many things, and the "we really value the work you've done" line makes you think "then WTF are you getting rid of me for?"

  I'm glad I was let go, but it was hard for so long to try and not be bitter about it. I'm sure being his friend makes it tough.
