Didn't the Whatsapp guy promise never to put ads on there?

If that's the case, they need to at least double in size to break even.

Seems insane to me. 1bn would be a good deal, 16bn is just insane. Apple won't even spend 1bn for an acquisition (but they have an actual product line, not just a website).

sem - there rarely are all cash deals anyway, always valued at the prices on transaction, so $16bn is accurate, today (well, maybe a little as FB is down a tad).

    • I didn't know you could base a companies worth on its members acquired stocks?sem
    • stocks for another company that is. Wouldn't that effect the owners worth rather than the company he runs?sem
    • they did just double in size by becoming part of FB family, and that has tons of ads, so donemonospaced
    • no adds, at least that continues to be the promiseformed
    • for the value, it is always based on stock value. Zuckerberg is valued by his stock, not just bank account, his "worth"formed
    • it is a separate app, different business model, so they haven't gotten any 'new' users (I don't care to use it, but I use FB)formed
