just to put it out there: how is this a sign of respect though? do we all take a moment of silence each time we read a new RIP post in some new blog / thread on every damn site?

it's not like a bar where everyone has a moment of silence and raises a glass, posting shit on the internet about every fucking lost semi-celebrity or artist is more a sign of disrespect in its general passive nature towards the concept of death by way of self indulgence.

i dunno, would you go up to a stranger on the street and say to them "rest in peace bb king"? no. if you respected him and his life, you would keep it to yourself, go home, put on a record and enjoy a glass of scotch. christ.

    • You know your life is great when all you have to complain about is people saying "RIP". Three paragraphs worth.iCanHazQBN
    • Focus that energy into something positive. You can do it...iCanHazQBN
    • what? i like communication theory and sociology. i think the pervasive nature of self-published meta-living is fascinating and dangerous.colin_s
    • i'm asking a serious question. i really do want to know if people think this is an actual symbol of respect, because i think it's more disrespectful.colin_s
    • more disrespectful than getting angsty about self-published meta-living in this thread?Fax_Benson
    • interesting subject for sure but seems a strange example to take issue withFax_Benson
    • Perhaps people post images, songs etc to remember the person and smile one last time in remembrance. How is a candle vigil any different? I think your posts areinstrmntl
