My father just died while in my care on hospice in his house. Lots of morphine + ativan + whatever else... He had terminal cancer and a failing heart.
Better than being "hooked to machines", but I assure you not a pleasant death. Two weeks of hell, including multiple trips to the bathroom, bathroom in the bed, lots of puking, and not much eating.
If I had my choice, I'd choose an instant, clean death. Nothing prolonged. Step in front of a train, jump off a cliff/building, bullet in the head...something sudden.
