  I'm staying in Bangkok right now about fifteen minutes from where it happened. Lots of theories floating around with people blaming it on the anti government protesters, Muslim separatists, etc. I don't think anyone really knows at this point.

  The shrine itself has a weird history, it was built about half a century ago because according to Buddhist teachings the building had bad karma. Then a few years ago some crazy person destroyed the statue at the center of the shrine with a hammer before being beaten to death by bystanders.
