"If only the police and army had guns we would all be potential victims of autocrats and despots" -gilgamush

LOL. What world does your mind live in?

Speaking about the US, the military has the only guns that actually matter. Their weaponry is a million times more effective than your pistols and rifles. They can press a button and wipe out an entire city if they wanted.

You are already living under despots. You possess ZERO power. They just like to make you think you do. When they sell you a gun, they're not selling "freedom", they're selling a product. They only keep us around because we're the consumers that buy their products so they can get richer and richer.

They'll allow you to have your little guns, but never something that might actually threaten the military (tanks, drones, jets, nuclear, automatic weapons). Only handguns, so that poor people (non consumers) can kill each other over stupid shit like road rage and gang violence.

The idea that us civilians can rise up and form militias and stand up to the government is long gone. The right to own a gun made sense when it was musket vs musket. Now it's pistol vs drone... pistol vs nuke... pistol vs fighter jet. These people waving their guns around shouting "freedom" look so silly.

Owning a gun in a third world country with turmoil makes more sense, as it's still basically guns vs guns.

    • Sorry to divert your thread, maquito.iCanHazQBN
    • Conservatives are so stupid thoug. They're so pro-military that they've allowed the military to become incredibly over-funded and way too powerful to ever beat.iCanHazQBN
    • ...And yet in the same breath they tell each other that they can stand up to the military with their little pistols. Amazing logic.iCanHazQBN
    • If you don't have a gun you aren't a man you are just a pansy.monospaced

    • What an idiotic post. Armed citizenry is to protect you from mass murdering govts like Germany, England, France, China, Austria, Iran, Russia, Africa, etc.Hayoth
    • Then the second part is to protect from people that call for people to be murdered who have a different opinion. Moldero for example wants that pharma CEO killeHayoth

    • typical fallacious slippery slope nonsense and naive fuzzy thinking. and it's not my way of thinking you condescending prick, it's the reality of the situationgilgamush
    • If you want the reality of the situation, go compare US gun deaths to other 1st World gun deaths. This is not a civilized country.iCanHazQBN
    • all the more reason to be ready to respond with appropriate forcegilgamush
    • All that does is escalate the entire situation. He has a gun? I need a gun! He has a bigger gun? I need a bigger gun! It's primitive thinking.iCanHazQBN
