  they're promoting it heavily as 'the maker's network', they want all original stuff on there. they'd have to, otherwise why abandon tumblr. but yeah, quality has markedly improved in the last 6 months, and they're actively pushing the good stuff in your face.

  i'm guessing a sort of marketplace will be added eventually, but different from etsy, i can see that as the end goal on how to make money with this thing. or they quietly drop the 'no ads' policy.
