I dont really get why they made an evolved version of their biggest console failure, but Im a moron and buy every console from Ninty, Sony and MS, but still really confused by it.

Sony and MS have like 60 million gamers wrapped up between them. The "hardcore" crowd. Nintendo did the smart thing with the Wii and backed away from that by targeting casuals. Then after that the casuals hit the road as mobile and tablets emerged, so who is left for nintendo to target?

It doesnt seem like dedicated handheld gaming machines are a big thing anymore. The Vita tanked, the 3DS only sold a fraction of what the DS did. So I dont know if this thing will be a success. I hope it is, but if it doesnt do that well I dont think any of us will be surprised.

I still think nintendo should get out of the hardware business and just spend all their resources on making software for others. Go full on 3rd party. Imagine what a Mario game would sell like if it came out for the PS4/X1. Wayyyy more than it will likely sell on the Switch.

    • Dont forget, software sales is where these companies make their money. Not hardware. They often lose money on hardware. Game sales are their bread and butter.CygnusZero4
    • you talk a lot of sense lately.fadein11
    • I don't want Nintendo to be a 3rd party. They are excellent toy makers and industrial designers and I would miss their work.since1979
    • Sega lost so much as a 3rd party. They had excellent hardware.since1979
    • It's N's policy not to lose money on hardware sales.i_monk
    • I get that they are toy makers, but times change. Couldnt they thrive more as a 3rd party developer? Just seems to me that they would.CygnusZero4
    • Sega doesnt have the franchises nintendo has. Really, who cares that much about sonic? Mario and Zelda are beloved though.CygnusZero4
    • Disagree. Sega was super beloved and had equal mind share in their day.since1979
