pretty much follows the 'karate kid' summer movie plotline..
'fish out of water' kid... enters into the 'big contest' meets some new friends, has a wacky side-kick, gets a love interest, has a 'wise' mentor' ...wins the day etc...instead of karate, or boxing, or bmx riding....it's SURFING!
and the lead character/hero is a ....GRAPHIC DESIGNER!!!!!
it's crazy bad...but so sooooooo good.
saw it in highschool, about a zillion times, and still have a ton of love for it to this day.
c'mon...any movie with bands like 'Killing Joke' in the soundtrack has to be good, right?.... (fuck i love that band)
anyhow, it's fucking great. the hawaiian slang alone is worth the price of admission. you'll be wanting to call all your friends 'barny' and 'haole'
