Took these Saturday night in northwestern rural Illinois where my wife has family that live out in farm country surrounded by corn and soybean fields. Only had a tiny sliver of a crescent moon around 10:45pm when I took these. Forgot the camera mount for my tripod, but fortunately my brother-in-law, an avid target shooter, had some solid wood and steel targets at the edge of his property that worked for an improvised tripod. It was so quiet and still while taking these and just looking at the millions of stars in the sky - something I RARELY get to do living so close to Chicago.

    • really nice!Bennn
    • did you shoot them with your 23mm ?Bennn

    • Nice, that tint is natural??robotron3k
    • Thanks! White Balance adjusted to make it more blue, otherwise you get a ton of yellow, espeically in those city lights over the horizon.mg33
    • Seeing the Milky Way is so impressiveBennn
    • I took my daughter out there around 10pm, she was up super late because we were seeing family and shooting off fireworks.mg33
    • Somehow she knew that was the Milky Way (or heard me say it) and was a little too cold to stay out for long.mg33
    • But I so look forward to times in the future I can just kick back with my kids far from the city and just soak it all in. It's an amazing thing.mg33

    • Grab it Shellie, glad you like it. If you want a bigger one I can upload one when I'm home tonight. Not sure why Adobe LR web isn't giving bigger file sizes.mg33
    • Next time I try these, I'm going with a higher ISO and shorter shutter speed. These were likely 20-26 second shots.mg33
    • wow, fantastic shots.fadein11
    • I think with higher ISO I could have dropped my times down to about 16 seconds and avoided a bit of the movement in shots pushing 20 seconds.mg33
    • The earth is always moving you know... ;)mg33
    • OK, gonna geek out for a second. If you've made the second photo your lock screen photo, it's f'ing cool the way it fades in, almost like the light from themg33
    • horizon is illuminating the screen.mg33
