Ok I’m finally throwing in the towel and getting glasses, mostly for up close detail work when making art, I have a cheap pair right now that I got from the dollar store ( fuck off :) but the problem is, they work great for super up close but as soon as I lift my head to look up I get a headache,

My question is, does anyone here use something like bifocals? Where upper half is just glass for normal viewing but bottom half is for up close reading drawing etc? Do they work? Is this what I need?

Also could have posted this in the getting old thread lol

    • I've been wearing glasses for years. I recently tried progressive lenses cuz I basically need long and close distance. I just cant adapt to it.DRIFTMONKEY
    • It's annoying to switch back and forth between 2 pairs, but with the amount of time I spend on computer, it just makes more sense to have the main pair be closeDRIFTMONKEY
    • varifocals are utterly shit unless you have tunnel visonhans_glib
    • They said it takes 2 weeks to adapt to progressive. But I work every day, and I need to focus. I immediately get nauseous and dizzy.DRIFTMONKEY
    • Doesn’t sound like fun_niko
    • So, my advice, with very limited experience is to have 2 dedicated pairs. Others may not have experienced my level of uncomfortableness though.DRIFTMONKEY
    • anything a foot or further away my eyesight is clear, it's just the close-up stuff, so i guess carry on with the reading glasses and just remove when looking up_niko
    • it's just a pain to constantly remove a few times per minute as i'm looking away to load brushes, mix colour, etc and then back to my canvas for example_niko
    • I buy those drugstore progressives. 0 at top, +1 middle, +2 bottom. works for meGnash
    • I broke down about two months ago and bought readers. I have progressive readers and am still trying to get used to it. I hate not being able to see!misterhow
    • ah gnash, didn't know they had those at the drugstore, though it was glasses shop or prescription-only or something, sounds like what i need_niko
    • ya, shoppers drup mart has these:

    • ^ Apparently, I'm wearing Conan at presentmisterhow
    • lol. me too! hahaGnash
    • Used to wear the smaller "tip of the nose" readers, but now use Camden Black multifocus. Looks and works waaay better.bezoar
    • Go see an optometrist! Drugstore glasses are only available for one type of vision. There is so much more to glasses than what they sell there.nb
    • Don’t conclude that you need bifocals. That may not be the case at all. Vision is more complicated than thatnb
    • Left lense for long distance, right for close up, I spend my day blinking, but it works.shapesalad
    • Yep, I wear mine at the tip of my nose mostly. Granny style but I'm getting ready to go see a dr. mom has Glaucoma and it's genetic so prevention is key.sea_sea
    • I got progressive glasses two years ago and haven't looked back after about 30 years of contacts. I don't even think about reading problems anymore.CyBrainX
