    TLDR:

    - England were the better team in the first half.
    - Italy dominated the 2nd.
    - England didn't seem to have a response.
    - Southgate waited too long bring on the subs.
    - Italy could have had 2 players sent off.
    - England looked to be edging it in extra time.
    - In hindsight it was a mistake to bring on cold players with so little time before the penalties.
    - Pickford did well in the shootout.
    - Donnarumma did very well.

It was close but Italy edged it.

England have come a long way.

    • Football is a game won on very fine margins, unless you're the Ukraine.Chimp

could but that would have been too harsh

    • We've seen players sent off for less. I think one player sent off would have been fair.Chimp
    • only the better team for 15 min in the first half.neverscared
    • that horse collar was ridiculous, but I liked that the ref let them play physical and not call ghost penalties._niko
    • I thought Sako should've started based on how well he played against Germany. But Trippier assisted the Shaw goal so what do I know. Feel awful for those...stoplying
    • ...that missed their pens.stoplying
    • Exactly. The fact Italy didn't run away in the 2nd half suggests they are not at their best, and that even in stunned-deer mode, England can still hold on.MrT
