Anyone have any tips for decent home video conference setup - ie Zoom etc? I have a shitty old MBP and the camera is pretty rank. I have no real need to update the machine...but if I have to I have to.

Alternatively if there are some low cost, half decent webcams / mics that anyone can recommend.

I have a whole series of Zoom meetings scheduled for the next month or so and I don't want to completely embarrass myself.

    • get good lights. HOME DEPOT has 4' LED LIGHTS for cheap. Put up a panel and shine. Your MBP will be fine if you have good lights. Or just open a big window.AQUTE
    • get a decent mic. i cant stand people using apple ear bud mics... those are absolute shiet.pango

    • Is your phone cam better than your MBP? Could you use that instead? Decent light makes a massive difference.thumb_screws

    • I have a razer kiyo webcam which is 1080p, has a ring light built in to it, good depth of field, and a decent mic. Not too expensive, would recommendkingsteven

    • Get a decent mic, we use Teams and our speakers always live in clip because twats use garbage phone earbuds that sound like a fucked-up railway PA.face_melter
    • pick up a used mirrorless camera with hdmi out, then plug HDMI into a USB capture card like this: https://www.amazon.c…monNom
    • get the brightest LED light you can find, and bounce it off a white wall to give you a nice diffuse lighting. Maybe off-center for more definition.monNom
    • Mirrorless because that big sensor gathers lots of light, Good light is important to get the cleanest image. Maybe a lavalier mic for audio.monNom
    • look for a high CRI rating for your light. So you get good skintonesmonNom
