Was just at a mattress store to pick up something for my toddler who's getting his first twin size. Walking through the store I didn't see a single queen size that was going for less than $3,000 on display. When I asked about something cheaper, they pointed to the cheap area in the back corner and reinforced the idea that a good mattress is a good investment.

I bought a $3K mattress about 10 years ago (big discount on top of that with the sale), and I'm glad I did. A mattress is not an area you should go budget on, considering you spend 1/3 of your life on it.

Thing is, there is a difference between the $1K and $3K mattress, and while it might not be apparent at first, it will be after a few years. No, it's not bananas. What's bananas is buying a half price $1K mattress, convincing yourself it's good, and then suffering on that piece of crap five years later.

    • Yep and you can haggle. Do it. One of the last few places you can haggle in this modern worldnb
    • Oh yes. They have deeeeeep margin on mattresses. I’ve bought two in the past 10 years at about 30% of retail.monNom
    • $3k mattresses for $800, and $1000 respectively.monNom
