According to the CDC (based on analyzing 600,000 cases) even with the Delta variant being vaccinated makes you:
11 times less likely to die
5 times less likely to get infected

Thinking back to all these people at the beginning of 2020 who kept saying "it's just the flu"...
Maybe this is actually a good way to explain vaccination to people who are confused by some number of "breakthrough" cases...no it's not perfect but it essentially makes COVID-19 into a less serious disease about as dangerous as the flu.
