Once you starting reading about it, it becomes clear this is more a PR stunt on Facebook's part than anything else. Metaverse is supposed to be a live, synchronous virtual world that is built on top of common standards, so that you can move seamlessly from one game or community to another.
Not only does that not exist, Facebook doesn't seem to have a clear plan for it. It's also unclear why you would need everything unified into a single live system in this way -- it sounds incredibly resource intensive for no reason.
