Note carefully the nature of the Russian rhetoric. At first it was all bombast and fire and brimstone, TikTok Chechens, grandiose claims about reuniting the motherland and defeating nazism. "We'll take Kyiv and be holding a victory parade in 3 days!" Remember that? 6 months of military humiliation ago?

Now it is a quiet determination to restore the bridge and quickly repair the damage; the bully is silenced when they are punched in the mouth. This is an embarassing public wound and they can't BS about the nature of the damage.

The Ukranians have proven that that bridge is, and remains, at risk, vast resources will be expended to protect it. The Russians were quick to say it was a truck bomb, that means it wasn't; but humouring them, did it set off from Crimea or Russia? Regardless, that bridge is also getting in range of Ukranian (OK, NATO) munitions by the day.

They have not yet done a serious damage survey so claims to get it back working quickly are simply propaganda. Also winter is coming, I really doubt that you can make adequate repairs on a sea bridge during very cold weather. Until the repairs are finished, the bridge is degraded and Russians within Crimea are vulnerable.

    • I'll bet there is at most 1 crane barge in the region able to help with repairs. I'd be waiting for that to show up...comicsans
    • I'll stop after this. Satellite pics clearly show a scorched roadway, that implies a bomb on the road. Also the alleged truck came from Russia.comicsans
    • Ooooh. Home-grown terrorist, maybe?Continuity
    • russia is fucked thread ....neverscared
    • As I realised above, the truck in question exhibits the flash of the explosion on its top surface before the conflagration takes over the entire frame.Nairn
    • There's a definite wave observable under the point of explosion in some clips, and Ukr's been putting drone boats out aruond Crimea for at least a month now.Nairn
    • That said, I think it'd be a lot easier for someone to blow up a truck filled with explosives, esp. with the happenstance train being alongside.Nairn
    • ..and clearly Ukr's had teams of saboteurs operating in Crimea recently, and have been happy to 'own' the result, see: the stamp they've issued commemorating itNairn
