I believe I have all the essential tools needed for a great kitchen except for one - a Le Creuset 8 QT Dutch oven. Does anyone have any experience with off-brand alternatives? I’m not sure if I am willing to spend $400 at the moment.
- This is one instance where you should pay the 400. Archaeologists will find thing a thousand years from now, and it will still be perfectly usable.Continuity
- Definitely a case of getting what you pay for.Continuity
- Yeah you’re probably right.HijoDMaite
- picked up one for 30 quid at auction (local auction house) le creuset has no resale even in great condition.kingsteven
- I have the cuisinart equivalent. It’s identical quality and a third the price.monospaced
- ^ Not even close in qualityGnash
- For one, Made in China cuisinart has 1 layer of enamel. French made creuset has multiple layers of finish.Gnash
- You want to save a few bucks go for the Chinese knock-off, they’re ok. But for quality and longevity go for the French madeGnash
- “Identical quality” — You just make that shit up?Gnash
- If you buy the Chinese pot, make sure you check the finish carefully, look for bubbles or uneven areas. QC isn’t near that of creusetGnash
- Fuck, I'd never thought about buying second hand le creuset - durr. Thanks, KS!Nairn
- I have the 2qt, the 5.5qt and a big braiser. I file them under "by for life", because they will exists long after you're gone.garbage
- But also the 8qt? Flol, what are you doing over there, boiling babies? I can't even imagine how heavy that bastard is.garbage
- The 5.5 is about 12lbs, and I've been extremely nervous using it on an induction surface (spoiler, already cracked it).garbage
- Also if there are any small kitchen stores in your area, they probably have a return or overstock from a Karen. It's a thing.garbage
- I once dropped off some knives for sharpening, and the workers were joking about who's going to steal the discount Le Creuset.garbage
- I got a cast iron oven thing from Lidl, £30. Works same as Le Creuset / Staub.shapesalad
- Gnash I have both. Yes it’s the same quality. I didn’t make that shit up. Le creuswt is way overpriced. You are also paying for the name.monospaced
- My Le creuset already chipped. The cuisinart seems stronger. Smoother enamel too.monospaced
- yes the enamel has chipped a little on the edge, but this because I'm clumsy. if handled with care, no difference from the expensive brands.shapesalad
- get a carbon steel frying pan. and you have pretty much all you need in life.shapesalad
- I understand the Le creuset is “better” quality. I really do. But at the end of the day cooking I feel like they both perform the same. Thats all.monospaced
- Ya but they talking about dutch ovenpango
- You confidently say the silliest things! xoxocanoe
- Uggghhhh you guys should really move to discord. People kept cutting in line. Now nobody knows who's talking to who
+ We need more shit stirrers therepango - You can do anything
if you believe.palimpsest - No mono, they are not the “same quality” you may feel that they are, but that’s make-believe. You pay for better manufacturing, QC, materials and processGnash
- A girl can dream.palimpsest
- I got a lodge for $60 new after thinking long and hard on the le creuset. Very happy with that pickrobotinc
