I was listening to some Canadian podcast last night - CBC's Ideas - and there's a radio show from fucking 1989 with David Suzuki banging on about how fucked we're going to be if we don't get our shit sorted. Back then, they were still super-worried about the ozone, which is a rare sorta-success story where we all came together and stopped making so much of that shit*.

But at the same time, they're fretting about species losses, deforestation, greenhouse emissions... in 1989, panicking about it.

    That's nearly 35 years ago.

    We really are fucked.

I'm just hoping the fact that insurance companies are starting to abandon entire areas because of this will be the final wake up call for the money people to finally realise they do actually need to do something about this shit. And, possibly, still profit.

    • * except for recent huge emissions from various points over in asia somewhere.Nairn
    • I fully believe that we as a species have the means to undo this shit. And not too un-quickly. But. It requires motivation. $$Nairn
    • Well, undo some shit. I think we have truly- fucked things with micro- pico - nano- etc- plastic particulate pollution. Really badly.Nairn
    • Rich people just move, they have their bunkers too.PhanLo
    • This is par for the course, as far as David Suzuki is concerned. I remember he was sounding the alarm even as far back as the late 1970s in his TV docs.Continuity
    • He should be considered a Canadian national treasure.Continuity
    • Apparently he’s a bit of a prick in real life. Maybe he’s unhappy his predictions for the end times keep getting pushed back.monNom
