    Dis:
AI rapidly progresses to the point where it runs all business and government and we get into a dystopian nightmare scenario where the AI optimizes for number of humans and sustainability. AI thus solves climate change and most other disasters but the downside is it must also optimize for number of humans and sustainability. So you can’t be in the bottom n% of people (based on productivity to society) when the cull happens and you have no method to determine when and how many will be culled. So the new rat race is basically working some human job better than as many of your peers as possible. You can live as long as you’re in the top whatever % but it fluctuates. You can have as many kids as you want but they fall under the same rules once they hit 15.

    Dat:
AI never gets far beyond the quirky surface stage and global business continues as usual so the climate slowly deteriorates and you’re left in a raw world of natural disasters, extreme lack of fresh water, limitations on when you can be outside and mass migration of people trying to get to the smallest livable areas of the earth. Let’s say that a small part of Siberia is the last place left that is habitable so many billions will die and you have to keep your family alive and there’s really no hope for your great-grandchildren. Humans will be extinct within their lifetimes.
