I've spent a fair amount of time in Italy these last few years, and have seen the grandest of edifices put up in Christ's name - as they have been in my own and many other country's too, obviously - but the sheer opulence of the ones in Italy, at the height of the respective powers that comprised it? It's crazy-ridiculous.

And against everything Christ himself taught.

It's so crazy to me how the entiriety of Christ's teaching has been so utterly mangled and abused to exact power, might and capital in the hands and roots that grew the sheer perversion that is the catholic, and most every other, church.

But here we are, and it's entirely normalised.

    • All the symbols ( † ), sainthoods and relics etc go completely against Christ's actual teachings too... 'perversion' is too kind a wordPonyBoy
    • When I lived there I spent a lot of time in their churchesGnash
    • Always something to learn, from small family chapels to cathedralsGnash
    • It did fuel many serious art movements and there’s some merit to that of course.monospaced
