Kuz- your feelings about pants obsession comes more from you than from Cosby- he is not talking about baggy pants- but about where priority lies.

And it's not just a black "thang" it's a poverty thang- it's the attention towards cosumerism more than the well being in your own community. That lost pride-
Rap culture has exploited it's own up bringing- the artists yap about the days in the streets- about all the shit that goes down- and instead of focusing on the issues that buy gold plated toliet seats when they could be helping to build a community center.

Cosumer obsession in poverty stricken communities stretches alot farther from the ghetto- look at any lower or low middle class neighborhood- Walmarts, McDonalds, liquor stores, on every corner- and everyone in line buying 50 cent, Marlyn Mansion, or Britney Spears records. All try to associate themselves with the culture those things represent- taking that 6.00 an hour paycheck to purchase the latest "reason they are" and "proud to be" rather than spending it to feed the family, save for the future...etc.

We are all victims of this mess- this is the American Way- but the rich get richer by telling the whole world how poor they were and you are... it's a wasted circle..

Cosby is saying to stop and think- think about your culture- it's place in history- it's future... what is more important- new rims for the hummer, or maybe moving out of the nieghbor you child might get shot in...

Rap culture has done more harm than good for the same community it sells it to - and this is not only "Black America"- "white America" probably owns more 2pac records than the ghetto does. It's not to say that freedom of speech and artist creativty shouldn't exist- it's to say that YOU are responsible for YOUR OWN up bringing- your own culture- and what defines you... making Tommy Hilfiger and 50 cent rich isn't going to feed the family-

it's entertainment- enjoy it- but prioritize-

    say it loud-
    be black and be proud...

no matter what size pants you wear.
