    cab2k4,

I can see your point about discrediting an entire community on the basis of just one individual. And I agree.
    However...

With all due respect to mormons in this forum...
As Bio mentioned much earlier in this thread, I made a point of searching out different philosophies and religions. I came away with very different conclusions than Bio (but lots of respect to him, because most people conform to a belief system, or lacktherof, without doing much research). Through this journey, I stumbled upon the book of Mormon. I've read it. I've also read a lot of the Journal of Discourses.
I came away with the conclusion that mormonism isn't really much of a religion. At least not in the historical sense than some other major World Religions are. Mormonism is probably the poorest documented religious movement I've ever encountered. None of the peoples mentioned in their books existed. None are backed by any historical or archeological findings. None of the places have ever existed. There's no historical record anywhere. No archeological record anywhere.

    Hmm...

Some of the mormon scriptures are filled with things that are just plain and flat out wrong. The Journal of Discourses mentions people that live in the sun and the moon, among other things.
The book of Mormon plainly states (in these exact words) that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are one being (the doctrine of the trinity) which goes completely against what the church of mormon teaches.

If there are people who want to believe it, that's OK. But the facts state pretty much that it's just a flat out fairy tale.

And, no I'm not trying to discredit the people that follow it. I'm trying to discredit the institution as a whole because of what it's based on. I mean, forget about the whackos in the news. Have a closer look at the founders.
