i was in the store today, and as i passed the fogged frosty beverage cases, i stopped... i turned slowly and thought, just for a minute, that i saw an entire case filled with the same type of coca-cola.
no, sir. Jim's Deli hadn't suddenly lost their minds - apparently, Coca-Cola did.
upon closer inspection, i found that these were all different types of Coke. cherry coke, vanilla coke, even classic coke - but they all looked the same. slight colour variations and minor typographic changes aside, they looked so absolutely similar that, without looking closely or the label turned to face you, you don't know what's in that case.
why? what could possibly be the reasoning behind homogenizing Coca-Cola's many brands? have you noticed this?

Sorry to bump an old thread back up but going through these threads it seems either:
a)Coke or Pepsi are trying to fool the American public into buying their products.
b)a few of you lack observation skills.
Here in Oz we have colour coded lids. Simple.
Yellow is for Lemon diet coke or lemon Pepsi
Red is for Coke or Pepsi Max
Beige is for Vanilla Coke or Caffeine free coke
White is for Diet Coke
Blue is for Pepsi.
Don't they have that in the states?

hey VENA that thing you said about scotland being the ONLY country where coke is not #1, well, Peru happens to have their own coke too, and they've actually banned coke products in some parts of peru, it's called
INCA-COLA, I tried it when I was in Chile, but get this, it also tastes like bubble gum?

..but if all the bottles look the same, its basically going to be a game of blind mans bluff for buying a drink.
Who needs that kind of stress ha ha ha

hey vena, barr's irn bru is not a knock off! i remember doing a project on the stuff when i was about 13.
it was invented by robert barr just over 100 years ago. he was bought out by his brother's company (a.g.barr) about 50 years ago, just after they'd switched to the phonetic spelling.
you can get it in the US from a few online places, the cheapest i've found being here:

and i know i've seen tab at drsoda.

an entire case filled with coca cola--far more than any other brand-- presents an irrefutable image of brand invincibility, hugeness, Daniel Day Lewis Bill the Butcherness?

Irn Bru is made by a.g.barr. over here in scotland it is number one but coke have on many occasions claimed otherwise, they used to say it was number one as they only counted plastic bottles and cans. that didnt work because irn bru is mainly sold in glass bottles and sells more glass bottles than plastic and cans put together.
irn bru is great, i think i'll have some right now :D

I'm not sure it's so much that coke is trying to trick anyone, but to soothe their customers into trying something new. If the new products are too flashy they stop resembling coke, something you are familiar with. You see vanilla coke and coke together and they look similar and you think: "I like coke, this looks like coke, I will like this." They are selling you something new by actually selling you something you already want. Most people are very unimaginative. They need a solid point of reference. "It's just like coke except..."
